Vera Lasthein – says: “I see my artistic practice as a continuous unfolding of stories. Through a figurative expression, I construct ceramic sculptures that almost always take the shape of characters. These characters aim to convey different emotions; sometimes overflowing, often subtle but mainly universally human. I draw inspiration from everyday life, relationships, what we share with each other, and what we keep to ourselves. Throughout the process, I frequently notice that the sculptures portray certain facets of myself, and my hope is that others too can find reflections of themselves in my characters. Creation is my way of narrating, but also my way of reflecting, processing, and attempting to comprehend myself and the world around me.”
